1st Annual 901 vs The SIP All Star Game
by Chris Burns
In the first annual Network Challenge, players from the SIP South and the SIP North traveled to Memphis to compete against a team of the best unsigned players from the 901 Area Code. The first half was pretty much like any All Star Game, sloppy, tense, wild and loose, but once the jitters wore off in front of a pretty good sized crowd there to cheer on their favorite players, the game went to the next level.
The SIP which was made up of players who have all signed to colleges from the NCAA D-2 level to the JUCO level brought out the excitement as they rallied from 14 down with 4 minutes left.

After leading the entire game the Memphis team fell behind after platoon substitutions threw off the groove of the offense. While Memphis was platoon subbing, the Mississippi squad was able to rally a comeback behind the hothands of Jimmy Palmer (Christian Brothers University signee) Hernando H.S. (MS) and Justin Grace (unsigned) Ridgeland H.S.
Not to be outdone by the guards the wings and forwards for Mississippi followed up the deep shooting of their teammates by going to work on the boards and putting together a series of dazzling aerial displays. that got the crowd excited and up on their feet.
Brian James led the way with two big time rim rattlers while teammates TJ Allen Ridgeland H.S. (Northeast CC signee) and James Archie (Holmes CC signee) made foray after foray into the Blue paint at Hamilton H.S. Bruce Jacobs Horn Lake H.S. (Northeast CC signee) and Justice Clark Hernando H.S. (unsigned) rounded out the fired up SIP crew with defensive plays in the full court that frustrated a Memphis crew that took the game a bit too lightly in the closing minutes to allow The SIP to force an overtime that could have went either way.
The final score of 90-87 was not a tale of two halfs, it was a tale of one. In the second half both teams scored over 50 points and showed why they were chosen to represent their states in this battle of the borders.
The MVP could have been a toss up between James Archie, Jimmy Palmer, Brian James and Adrian Miller. However, The 901 vs The SIP All Star Game MVP was Adrian Miller who led his squad with great defense and fantastic above the rim entertainment.
