Class of 2010:
1. Andre Stringer, 6'0 Guard from Forest Hill, far and away the best guard in this class. Outstanding shooter, deceptive speed and true floor leader. Made a average team good, and that's the sign of a D1 player. Had career high 61 earlier this year. Will only get better playing against the high level competition he faces each summer as a member of the Jackson Tigers AAU dynasty.
2. Jalen Courtney, 6'8 Forward from Provine High - many people may be surprised at Jalen ranked this high, but if you see this young man play, you would be convinced. Has biggest upside of any member of the class of 2010, including Andre. Has great hands, tremendous work ethic, nose for the ball around the rim, and defensive tenacity. Will be a big time scorer next year. He finally got that "dog" in him this season and it showed. Scored 32 in tournament in Kentucky.
3. Rashard Perkins, 6'5 Forward from Starkville High - Flat out BEAST! Reminds many of a young Dominque Wilkins with his high rise act. If he adds a consistent jumper to go with that motor, he will be unstoppable next year. Plays to win, and when he learns that Starkville is HIS team, his stats will jump through the roof.
4. Dundrecous Nelson, 6'1 Guard from Murrah High - Was having a good year until tragic accident last month. I still feel that this young man is in the top 5 of this class. Great athleticism, high riser with an improving jumpshot. Definitely D1 talent.
5. Dantonio "DJ" Evans, 5'9 Guard from Brandon - As last weeks All-Star hoopla showed, you can't be #1 or 2 in your conference (in this case, state) with just one player. This young man has come a LOOONNG way this year and he has proven that he is more than a assist man to the man child Tyler Adams. Consistent jump shot to go along with that quickness makes him unguardable at times. Brandon has best one-two guard/center combo in state, period.
Others to watch: DeMarco Cox, 6-8 Center from Yazoo City, Trency Jackson, 6-1 Guard from Wingfield, Edward Townsel, 6-0 Guard from Starkville, Montel Walters, 6'4 Guard from Pearl High and Marcellous Hansberry, 6'1 Guard from Lanier.
