Notes

A member of the state tournament Madison Central team, Vince came off the bench and put up decent numbers during his junior season.  Expect a breakout season this year.  With solid shooting mechanics and range out beyond the NBA three point line, Vince can fill it up quickly and accurately.  He has very good athleticism and uses a variety of moves to get to the basket and finish strong.  Defensively he understands position and can guard bigger than his frame because of his jumping ability.  I’ve seen a few guards this year, some who have already signed or are committed to colleges, and Vince either comparable or better.  His travel team did not travel extensively so he is still somewhat under the radar but if he can carry over his play from the teams final summer tournament into the high school season, his recruitment will blast into orbit.  He could possibly gain a half a star if he gets into the gym and works on his handle but with his ability to score off the dribble and his speed, I still think he should be getting mid major looks now.  He is a full qualifier and played in the Miss. All Star game and has been the MVP at several tournaments this summer.

2nd Eval: Vince has to learn to assert himself.  He is too passive at times but is now playing the PG spot with a cool confidence and a great eye.  He should not be overlooked.

Final Spring Camp Eval: This is a case of not being seen enough.  Vince is a mid major PG.  Several colleges offered on the spot on Saturday, all below the D-1 level.  I rarely ever tell a player to wait but like Jermon Thomas, I feel that Vince Powell is capable of playing at the D-1 level.  He should not be taken lightly.  He is a strong and explosive PG.
