No music today, just the sun, my shears, gloves, raggedy jeans and my sunny I Love California tee shirt. I also had a few power tools for the edging and trimming of the shrubs, but you get the idea. Last week I finished off the week and yesterday, with my Wii Workout. I have also added 30 pushups before bedtime to the repetoire to build a little mass. While 30 push ups doesn’t sound like much, it is actually a great thing to do before bed if you do them slowly and with a lot of control instead of using momentum to carry you through them. Anyway, back to today. The Workout: 1st 30 minutes I pruned the roses. This gave me a pretty good shoulder workout, wrist and fingers as well as a leg squats and lunges. It also provided me with about 6 pricks from the thick ass thorns on my long stems. I had blood spots up and down my arm, but hey it’s worth it to have my roses come back strong after the first blooms. Next 15 Minutes: I took out the old trimmer saw and shaped the four shrubs. This was a good arm workout of [...]

I will be writing a ‘Get To Know” on the Roots’ undun on www.cbpublish.com in a few days. My wife recently bought me this album and while I don’t like downloads, I haven’t stopped playing it since she put it on my desktop. Running to Undun placed me into a trance as I did my 5K for the week. The album itself, without having researched the album outside of reading some articles on Okayplayer.com begins with the high pitched sound of a flatline and then begins telling a story. It is not a disjointed narrative, but very similar to Nas’ Rewind it begins at the end and snakes its way back through the fatalistic desires of being born in the ghetto were a story begins, like the picture on the album and an allusion to Lauryn Hill’s lyric, “flipping in the ghetto on a dirty matress.” Unlike the introspective Hip-Hop of a Kid Cudi and Lupe, running to this album was not a hindrance, the music is kept in the pocket by Questlove’s drumming and while many of the songs are not uptempo the backbeat drives the songs and drove me although as I said I didn’t even think about [...]

I’m actually just kidding about the Brian McKnight thing, but for some reason I can’t stop laughing at the absurdity of Brian McKnight’s latest Youtube vid… especially since one of my friends from high school brought it up this morning. Dude is on one for real! On to today’s run: Let me show you how your legs work on a 2.5 mile run when you are a big guy. Once again I was in pursuit of my son and his neverending goal of riding standing up. Watching him makes me forget I’m jogging because for the life of me I can’t remember having to learn how to ride a bike standing up. I just remember getting on the bike and automatically jumping hills and curbs. Temperature: 82 degrees. It’s warm out but there was a small breeze which was great when I was running with the wind, but not so good when I was running against it. Terrain: The suburban concrete jungle (with weeds, bugs and the non stop supply of lawn dudes chopping the grass. Distance: According to Google Maps it was 2.5 miles. Time: 25 minutes I have to stop answering the phone during runs, but like Jon Coffee “I [...]

Okay the automatic assumption is that I’m talking about Elvis since this is Memphis. The actual fact is I’m talking about my son who plays the guitar, but also provides motivation on early morning runs. Lately he has been listening to the BB King and Eric Clapton album by the same name, hence the name of the post… Anyway another nice jog this morning. Nothing special at all. Only 2.3 miles according to Google Maps and that didn’t take much time at all. Here are the particulars: Temperature: 75 degrees. The sun is hot! I mean it wasn’t bad, but when I got to the hills, every little thing was making it difficult to pick up speed. Terrain: A very hilly run… is hilly a word? There is one hill that would make a marathoner cry for mercy. My son took that hill like Lance Not Strong. Distance: According to Google Maps it was 2.3 miles. Time: 22 minutes Soundtrack: Lupe Fiasco on Pandora. This could be part of the reason my run was so difficult. Lupe is a dope emcee, but his station was filled with Kid Cudi, Kanye and way too much introspective stuff. I can’t listen to self conscious Hi=hop and get motivated. [...]

Wednesday morning!!!!!!Yesterday was officially my last college class as an instructor/professor. Very bittersweet moment overall. It was a great class, but it’s time to start a different phase of my life away from education after over 17 years. Sigh… enough of that. Today was more road work for the kid. I plotted a great map on Google and took off. Temperature: 65 degrees. By the time I finished the run it had edged up to about 70 and the sun was pretty bright. It was still very nice weather for a run. Terrain: The suburban concrete jungle, the skreets, the hood, actually just the sidewalk with moderate hills. Then again a lot of the street didn’t have sidewalks and the road was too narrow so I actually went off road today. My legs don’t like the instability of the grass and dirt. Distance: According to Google Maps it was 3.3 miles. A 5K and it felt pretty easy just for the record. I ran a pretty decent pace as well. Time: 36 minutes, give or take a phone call and some texting about a buisness meeting with my PR guy. Aspiring writers have to eat and if he can get [...]

Monday morning!!!!!! I hope everyone had a great weekend and you are digging in for another week of work. I also hope you are still rolling on your own personal workout schedules and getting it in! Last week I finished the week with two days of virtual workouts on the Wii and on the Kinect. This week I started with a nice long jog with my son in tow. He rode his bike though, which is still pretty tough. Temperature: 50 degrees. I’m trying to figure out what happened to the warm weather all of a sudden. Terrain: The suburban concrete jungle, the skreets, the hood, actually just the sidewalk with moderate hills. Distance: According to Google Maps it was 2.17 miles. I give myself 2.5 just for the record. Time: 24 minutes, give or take a phone call. Hey, I’m a business… man. Soundtrack: Pharoahe Monche channel on Pandora. I think I made a good decision in buying an Android phone finally. Streaming music is the bomb!!!!! I really didn’t know what I was missing. Dopest song of the run? DWYCK: Gangstarr featuring Nice and Smooth. Talk about a song that was just right for the moment!
I’ve been playing in a basketball league and running as usual, but not enough. Last week during the game I dislocated my finger so for the past week I haven’t been really running (which has nothing at all to do with my finger), but I have been consistently doing my favorite workout… Wii Sports. Unlike most people who play the Wii, I get a full workout because I run in place (cardio), I do squats and lunges and between certain sports I get down and do pushups. Anyway, it’s a great workout and today’s workout was more of the same. The difference in the past workouts and today is my inclusion of the Everlast Wrist Weights (everlast should be paying me for this). Since the Wii requires you to hold a remote in one hand and the small nunchuk in the other hand, their is an imbalance of weight. I bought the Everlast Wrist Weights and using these helps to one the left arm while the right arm tends to do most of the work in Tennis and Bowling. These things are highly recommended. Workout: Wii SPorts 45 minutes. First I warmed up with the best of 5 tennis match. [...]

The Loyalty Page will feature various kicks not available on Amazon and shipping will be free and guaranteed to reach you in less than 4 days or you will get a discount on your next purchase. That’s right even if you are in California or Washington State your kicks will be there in 4 days or less! So bookmark the Loyalty Page and bookmark the Amazon page.
Okay those of you that follow the site know that I either post here or on Facebook about my daily workouts. Sometimes I forget to post (not really, I just don’t do it) which isn’t very cool; but anyway… I actually did a two part workout. The family took off for a bike ride and since I jog and I don’t have a bike, I walked with my daughter who has a Balance Bike. She is getting really good on the balance bike and I actually had to trot to keep up. It was kind of chilly out so I realized that I just didn’t want to face cold air jogging today, so I came back in and jumped on the Christmas gift: The XBox Kinect Sports. I’ve been playing this already, but this is the first article about it. I have to make a comparison of course. The Wii provided a very good workout, but holding the controllers created an unnatural stress which could contribute to joint stiffness or the old Carpal problems. More importantly, I tended to focus on the controller movement instead of isolating muscle groups. The Kinect utilizes a sensor that reads your body and therefore [...]

Anyone who knows me, knows that some of the best times of my young adulthood occurred when I was Haze Gray and underway. In other words, when I was in the Navy I learned a lot about life; in particular I learned about myself. The next two colorways from the ARCH Casual line represent my time in the Nav. I guess it’s a special dedication to my guys in VF-114, The Fighting Aardvarks and VF-213, the Fighting Black Lions F-14 squadrons. Big shout out to CVN-72 Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier! Singapore, Hong Kong, PI, Hawaii, Perth, Dubai, I got to see a lot of the world. Maybe these shoes will take you on a trip. These are rough photos straight from the factory. I will try to get better shots when they land in the US. Stay Motivated Chris B

Okay it’s been a long weekend and all of the Turkey and fixins are firmly settled into the rolls of stomachs across America. I haven’t done a WWYWT in a minute with all of the sneaker updates, so here is what I did to start getting rid of the Apple Pie and Sweet Potato Pie, both a la mode, that I killed this last week. Temperature: 37 degrees. I stayed in the house. I had been using the weather as an excuse not to run. I was also using my lack of cold weather running gear as an excuse, until last night. In the middle of the night the Treadmill sitting in the corner of the room spoke to me. It said, “I can smell the turkey and dressing seeping from your pores into the sheets of your bed. You are getting chunky, chunky, chunky.” Then it shut up. So I woke up this morning did a couple of blog updates and jumped on the treadmill for a jog. Workout: Program 1 Calorie burner 300 calories. I ended up at 296 calories, but that’s okay it was a good jog. Distance: 2100 steps, which I equate to 2.1 miles in [...]

When you are launching a new shoe, samples are critical to the development of the shoe. As most sneakerheads and fashion people know, samples cost a nice hunk of change. I think this is what makes me a little frustrated in the whole process. Like an artist when you take the time to invest energy into something and people simply overlook it because it’s not Nike or Jordan, that ish is mad offensive. To start your own shoe company is an expensive and nailbiting process. You drop a lot of money and then you have to work on the niche and angle, pricing and branding, and the whole time you work on this some person who is a “sneakerhead”, or “fashion” expert, which half the time the person is neither, simply drops a comment like “wack, garbage, not copping, lacks detail” with no consideration at all for the work that it took. Does this sound sensitive? Definitely, but I state all of this to say, one day you are going to want to do something other than buy Cole Hahn or Nike. You are going to want to make your own thing in fashion or industry and then you will [...]

The Allen: Casual shoe is on its way!!!! I’m excited as usual, but now comes the hard part. I have to sell the sneaker. I still have a photoshoot to do for The Allen and I have to get the marketing materials right, but I think the colorway is classic for this time of year and may replace Timbs as an alternative shoe for the Fall/Winter months (Well when it isn’t snowing, you get the picture). Up until this point I haven’t leaked any pics of the shoes, but some shots are in from the factory. Instead of posting them to Facebook, I will post them here. I’d like to get feedback on what you think, but I know it will be hard from the pictures which are not the clear and are packed in boxes. Also included in these photos are shots of other samples of The Allen. These are made with leather and suede instead of canvas. In the production model I will use denim and canvas and not leather on the side panels. Okay I’m shutting my mouth and letting you check out the pics prior to shipment. The boxes are in and I have to fold [...]

After a long summer of testing and trouble with ebay, all of the setbacks, hopes, dreams and redeveloping my business plan have led to this, The Allen. When I first launched ARCH, my first release was The Tori. The shoes that followed went back to my athletic roots. The Allen can be considered a low cut version of the Tori, but with a bit more cool. If you have been following the site and the ARCH story, you know the CG097II was supposed to be the next release. The problem is running shoes are technical, but that isn’t the reason for the change of heart. Running shoe sales tend to slow down in the winter months. Launching a running shoe from a new company with a 90 dollar plus price point is a risky endeavor. (The money to do the running shoe was pretty steep too, but we will gloss over that The picture above is obviously a sketch and therefore it doesn’t tell the whole story of The Allen and who the market will be. Here is the breakdown of why The Allen will be a classic silhouette. 1. It was not made for the Jordan Brand crowd. My [...]

Everyday you should do something that keeps the heart pumping. I hit the pavement again for today’s workout. While the weather may have changed at around 10pm the temperature is perfect for a nice jog. While most of you are probably working or in school at that time and you may find it hard to run, the weather is equally as nice at around 5-6pm. Let me know what you do in the comment area for a change. I know this is a sneaker site, but sometimes you have to use those expensive sneakers to relieve stress and keep the body in tune. Exercise: Jogging/Running Shoes: ARCH CG097 II ES Distance: 2.5 miles Time: 25 minutes Surface: Streets, concrete and grass in certain areas, moderate hills with one really big hill that I stayed on my toes and pushed it hard to climb Soundtrack: Aesop Rock, Del, Talib Kweli, Common and Bilal. Most motivating song of the run: Guerilla Monsoon Rap (Talib, Black Thought and Pharoah Monche) What did you do today? Stay motivated and buy some kicks. Chris B.
