December 20-22

CBHS Wave Classic

The Holidays always bring a host of teams from various parts of the country to host venues.  While the buzz around Tennessee was for the Public—Private school day, Christian Brothers High School annual tourney brought several teams from cities around the country to compete against local programs. The Wave Classic did not have the top teams in the country but the talent level was solid particularly in the final two games of the tournament.  Teams that participated included Millington H.S. (TN.), Memphis Catholic, Pittsburgh Central Catholic (PA), Middle College Memphis, Lovett H.S. (GA), Cincinnati Taft H.S., Riverdale H.S. (TN), and the host team Christian Brothers H.S.

Quick Notes

Rather than dig into the tourney and give it my own flair, here is a link to check out the outcome of the final day www.waveclassic.com.  This link gives you the stats on the day.  The Commercial Appeal also has a story on the final game.

CCB’s Notes

What I will do instead of writing an article is basically present a photo journal for you to look at which will also enable me to give a few details that I think are important such as who were the standout players. I hope this holds you over until I complete the highlight video which may take a day or two because of the length. For the notes: Riverdale was the Champion, CBHS the runner up, Lovett finished third, Cincinnati Taft finished fourth.

In the Championship Game: Highly recruited Senior Kevin Smith 6-4(Riverdale) Is so low you can’t see him as he guards talented c/o 2008 PG Martin Mitchell 6-0 (CBHS)

The Wave Classic at CBHS

c/o 07 5-11 Monsanna Torbert (Taft H.S.) Along with Scott Thomas, Torbert was my second pick for the best players on Championship day.  Torbert is a quick PG who plays with confidence but is a bit too unselfish.  He is very talented though.

c/o 07 6-2 Scott Thomas (Riverdale H.S.) was the MVP of the tourney.  Along with the top PG’s in the state Thomas has to be considered one of the best.  He is currently being recruited as a QB, but I foresee Greg Paulus problems for him, which is not bad.  He is one hell of a player.  Great composure and an accurate shooter he has a strong handle and plays with great savvy.
