December 16th, 2006 Pioneer Christian vs Cordova H.S. Darnell Wilkes 6-8 c/o 2008 (University of Cincinnati committment) , tried to lift his team past a feisty group of Wolves but it was a little too late after a slow start by the Pioneer Christian team. In a game that on paper appeared to be a mismatch, the Cordova Wolves defended their den not with a sling and stones but with hot hands raining threes over the outstretched arms of the taller Pioneer Christian team. In the first quarter it was senior leadership and accurate shooting from Casey Franklin c/o 2007 (14pts) who drained 4 threes early. |

Home Court Advantage
The full court press led to a Darnell Wilkes putback dunk, blocked shot steal and assist all in a matter of minutes to cut the lead down to ten points. Antoine Zayas 5-11 c/o 2008, was the beneficiary of Wilkes plays and was able to score 17pts to be the only other Pioneer Christian player in double figures. Pioneer Christian did cut the game down to 79-73, but it was the homecourt advantage, disciplined play and the steady guidance of Coach Moore that sealed the fate of the road weary PC team. In the clutch Cordova made its freethrows to keep the hard charging visitors at bay while Pioneer Christian missed the front end of one and ones and two shot freethrows, and had to hit the road with a defeat to a Cordova Wolves team that may use this game to turn the corner on their season. Final 83-75 |

The outburst of three’s led to Cordova jumping ahead on Pioneer to the tune of 24-9 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Cordova, with 4 players in double figures continued to pile it on as 6-4 c/o 2008 SF Justin Tate dumped in 19pts. But it was another senior who helped to ensure that the Wolves would maintain their focus. Jordan Rudolph, who looked like another #23 (albeit shorter, slower and … you get the picture), took charges and knocked down freethrows to notch a game high 24pts. But the Pioneer Christian team, who made a trek from Nashville to Memphis, did not go away quietly. Coach Carl Reed went at the half and rallied the troops. With 2:48 left in the 3rd after dropping to 24 point deficit Coach Reed placed his team into a stifling full court press. |
