A Big Day, Literally

September 16th: The CCB Classic Camp

The Future is Now!

Within one year CCB has developed into a regionally recognized website.  Yesterday, September 16th, the site made the critical step forward in gaining national recognition and becoming a valuable asset to colleges looking for players at all levels.

The final session of the CCB Classic Camp featured its most talented players yet. Amongst the outstanding players were mid major prospect underclassmen like class of 09 6-1 Jeff Stubbs (MS), class of 08 Terrance Joyner 6-3 (MS), and 6-8 Latavious Williams (pictured left, MS), to high major breakout prospects from the class of 2007 like Brandon Cook 6-8 (MS), 6-7 Wayne Wiggins (MS), and Sammie Lee 6-4 (MS). The event also included newcomers who will develop nicely over the next year like 2008 Nicholas Livisay 6-7 (TN), 2008 Gab Osagie (Ark), and 6-11 Chano Rashiddin 2008 (MS).

The easiest thing to do…

The easiest thing to do would be give you every score bit by bit throughout this article, however it didn’t seem reasonable to try and fit so much into one page.  So here is the breakdown of coverage for the camp over the next few days.  Today I will breakdown the top four teams.  Then on the following days I will breakdown the top five players at each position for both sessions.  By Friday I will feature the most exciting game on the site available for public viewing which was the Starkville vs Genesis One game.  Although the camp was an individual camp certain teams were far too talented to not invite. But for right now here is how the event was laid out.  The camp was set up tournament style to create a competitive atmosphere.

There was a five man team from Arkansas, featuring a group of talented underclassmen: Brandon Jones, Gab Osagie, Melvin Brooks, Gavin McDaniel and senior Shontrell Johnson.  This group finished the event in third place.

The second place team interesting enough were the small ball guys out of Madison County, and Ridgeland, MS: 2009 Jeff Stubbs, 2008 TJ Allen and Justin Grace and 2007 Vince Powell and James White.

The championship team consisted of a team that will be one of the best programs in the state of Mississippi this year the Starkville Bulldogs.  The cohesive unit dropped a number on the head and showed how teamwork can overcome talent in some cases.

The most impressive team of the event was clearly the Genesis One team.  A group of ten that played in five man squads faced a tough Starkville team in a battle for the ages.  But a mental lapse prevented Genesis One from playing in the championship game.

As a final note on this first article I will present the awards.  These were not physical awards given at the event.  These players are just finding out who took home top honors.

Most Valuable Player: This player led his team to 4 victories in the camp and if he would have been removed the outcome for his team would have changed tremendously.  (6-8 Latavious Williams c/o 08)  If rivals doesn’t have you ranked don’t worry once the colleges get this e-mail, rivals won’t matter.

Most Outstanding Player: Brandon Cook (pictured right) 6-8 Genesis One - Showed the ability to play inside out and knocked down the three with consistency and solid mechanics.  His recruitment is already high and after his performance leading into this season he should have his pick of schools.

CCB Sleeper Award: Sammie Lee 6-4 SG - I was on the fence about Sammie after the first session but after his performance against a loaded Camp team I am off the fence and I clearly believe that this kid should be contacted by low major to mid major programs looking for a 2 guard that can fill it up.  Sammie drained big shots during the camp and had an all around sterling showing.

Most Outstanding Underclassman: When he was on the floor Genesis One was plus 20.  When he was not on the floor the offense ran with less fluidity and was more methodical.  (6-3 Terrance Joyner c/o 08)
