December 19th, 2006 Bartlett Panthers vs Germantown Red Devils The Panther is one of the most ferocious cats in the animal kingdom. It typically waits and attacks in stealth mode, quickly and quietly. On this night the attack was a long drawn out affair that went into overtime under the dome at Germantown H.S. In a fantastic atmosphere the game saw a number of lead changes until the horn sounded on the final shot. Leading the way for the host Germantown Red Devils was class of 08 Mike Brodnax with 24pts with three other Red Devils adding double figures: talented super soph Ian Clark 22pts, Mike Elbridge 10pts and senior PG Jake Overzet with 15pts. Overzet one of two seniors who came up big, hit a leaning three to send the game into overtime. |

The other two Panthers in double figures were senior Phillip Ryan 19pts, and c/o 08 Quintin Delaware 14pts. Bartlett was able to withstand crushing blows from Mike Brodnax who put the home team Red Devils up by four in overtime 78-74 with 1:53 remaining, however instead of allowing the Red Devils to relax the Panthers in typical Panther fashion quietly pushed in an aggressive man defense and forced Germantown into a couple of quick shots. In turn Brereton made an athletic trip into the paint for two and then came back and dropped two free throws to seal the deal for the visiting Panthers. Final OT 83-85 |

Home Court Advantage Senior 6-5 Justin Howard was impressive in his role as an undersized Ben Wallace. Pulling down 15 rebounds and adding 9pts in the contest the kid played almost every minute of the game and did the dirty work on both ends of the court. But it was his final rebound with 6 seconds remaining in overtime that could have sent it into a second OT but fell short.
Taking Home Court Advantage For the Bartlett Panthers their ability to hang around benefited them well. Although they committed crucial turnovers at important times, when it was all said and done their three man tandem pulled it together led by senior 6-6 Hauns Brereton 30pts |
