Saluqis Track Down Bucs
The Southwest TN. Saluqis made it to 6-0 but only after to back to back games against TJCCAA foes Chattanooga State, who was undefeated, and against the new look Motlow State Bucs.
In a game that looked like an early season contest for the officials and the teams the Motlow State Bucs became a victim of their own inability to stay under control.
The Saluqis who took off on a ten point run at the beginning of the second half looked as if they would turn this game into a laugher but around the twelve minute mark the Bucs awakened from their ‘deer in headlights’ play. Led by 6-1 Soph. PG Quentin Turner, 17pts, the Bucs played smart and tough in trimming the lead down to four points at one time.
However a freshman blowup led to a letdown. In the middle of the surge with 2:25 left in the game 6-7 Demarco Stepter was tee’d up on a play that pushed the Bucs from being 6 points down to being 10pts down. Two free throws by leading scorer Donald Boone, 18pts, and then two more free throws by 6-8 Fr. Deante Burgess sealed the deal and wrapped up the upstart Bucs.
In an interesting turn from last season the perimeter minded Saluqis have now developed into a team that plays an inside game as well as their traditional press and gun offense. It looks like the Dawgs are on the prowl and ready to move into next weeks Thanksgiving tourney where they will face top ranked Howard College and Cincinnati State. |
