Maurice Miller 6-2 PG Raleigh Egypt (TN) |
Coach Adams has groomed and trained Maurice and this experience has helped Miller. |
Vincent Powell 5-10 Madison Central (MS) |
The kid can flat out fill it up but has also developed the understanding and vision to pass the rock as a PG. He has a great motor and considerable athleticism. Has the experience as a role player on a state championship team in the biggest conference in Mississippi and has developed into a leader over the summer. |
Edge Maurice due to height and overall experience, but Vince is not far behind. |
|
Myron Strong 6-1 Combo Hamilton (TN) |
Myron is a great athlete with a scorer’s mentality and the ability to play extended minutes at the point. His explosiveness and range makes him a threat to score at anytime. At the college level in the WCC he will be able to play the two instead of converting completely into a one. Playing for Hamilton will translate to success at the college level. |
Sammie Lee 6-4 SG Columbus (MS) |
Very solid shooting guard with a nice handle and court savvy. A very capable shooting guard who can drain threes open or with a hand in his face. Excellent rebounder from the guard spot and has great size. |
Edge goes to Myron due to overall athleticism. |
|
Broderick Gilchrest 6-0 PG Hamilton (TN) |
An above average handle, excellent athleticism and a strong perimeter game, also plays great on the ball defense. |
Jermon Thomas 6-4 Combo Olive Branch (MS) |
Long athletic, combo that handles well enough to get off his own shot and can defend the full length of the court. Has an unorthodox shot but makes threes from deep and can slash to the basket very well. Against high level competition plays well under pressure. Very talented player. |
Edge goes to Broderick based on state championship experience. |
|
Devyon Hunter 6-4 Hamilton (TN) |
He could be higher and is being recruited highly but at 6-3/6-4 he plays the three and does not have a strong handle to handle guard duties, but has a great body and serious hops. The problem may be can he guard a slasher or can he defend the post. He is a classic tweener, albeit a very good tweener. |
Donovan Jernigan 6-4 SG Gentry (MS) |
Incredible athleticism and speed. Nice form on his jumper and rebounds well. Has the ability in high school to play inside/out. Makes great defensive plays in the open court. He has not begun to tap his potential. |
Tie, Devyon should get the nod due to experience, but Donovan’s overall talent is too impressive. |
|
Randy Culpepper 5-10 Sheffield (TN) |
Why so low when he is ranked on rivals? Potential as a scoring guard the kid is a tremendous talent. But his height moves him more towards having to play the point. I just don’t see him developing the kind of court savvy to run a team as a point until maybe his sophomore year. Undoubtedly he will sign and play somewhere because shooters are a commodity, but this year he should learn to distribute the ball as well as score. He has help in a returning two who missed a lot of last year. |
Demond Craig 6-0 PG Mt. Juliet (TN) |
Lefty PG with great quickness and excellent court vision. Has the ability to stop and pop with great consistency and is a leader. Has been well coached and is a playmaker in both the half and whole court. Can create his own shot and is very capable of placing the ball where it needs to be. A top notch player without the pub. |
Edge goes to Demond. He is a more college ready PG. |
|
William Greene 6-6.5 Fairley (TN) |
This kid may be the most college ready player on the list outside of the top five. He can slash to the basket or slide into the post, his ability to play inside out will increase his stock without a question. The question may be if he is willing to work hard enough to be great. He has all of the tools but seems as if he turns it off and on. But when he is on he could easily be in the top five. |
James White 5-11 Callaway (MS) |
A scoring machine with a strong handle. I’d take him in a game where the pace would be a high scoring, uptempo, LMU Hank Gathers paced game. A bit undersized but can hop and has great body control. |
Edge William due to height, and explosiveness. |
|
Ruben Clayton 6-2 SG Central (Memphis) |
Long and athletic with a smooth perimeter game, Ruben has the misfortune of having broke his arm which slowed him down last year. But he is a quick kid who plays great defense and like Strong he can fill it up quickly. He is in a program that has over the last two years played younger players over seniors so he will have to adjust and he may be overshadowed. But he is definitely one of the better 2 guards in the region. |
Derrius Nelson 5-11 Gentry (MS) |
Heavily recruited by Central Florida but committed to Northwest Miss. Derrius is a scorer. He needs to develop a PG’s mentality but he is solid player overall. |
Edge Ruben, his toughness is without question and his potential is very high. |
|
Travis Thompson 6-7 Central (Memphis) |
I think Travis has more potential than anyone on this list. At his height he does a great job of playing with his back to the basket and facing up. He has developed the ability to put the ball on the floor as this will help especially since he is a lefty. Not playing travel ball or participating in camps may hurt his exposure. |
Shontrell Johnson 6-6 Blythville (Ark) |
Accurate outside shooter, agile and capable of slashing than but he settles for threes. Kid is very athletic though. |

|
Gabriel McCulley 6-4 Craigmont (TN) |
He may be closer to 6-6. He has a great wingspan and is very versatile and intelligent. Potential is the key to him being this high. He could develop into a great 2/3 that has enough skill to play the one for limited minutes if needed. |
Nikco Harris 6-4 Starkville (MS) |
Nothing beats a 6-4 Guard with PG instincts and a great outside shot. Nikco could be in the top 5 if he learns to use his athleticism and dunk on people. Overall he has such a great shot from the outside that he is a threat and a great find in a time when a lot of players lack the perimeter game. Very underrecruited. |

Derrick Edwards 6-5 Raleigh Egypt (TN) |
Great body and a feel for the game. He strikes me as a guy who will be similar to Larricus Brown. Once he moves on to a JUCO he will develop into a strong 2/3 that like Brown will have a breakout freshman season. |
Carl White 6-5 Gentry (MS) |
Great upper body strength and hops make this undersized post a great option when he is facing up to the basket. He has the ability to possibly move to the wing but needs to develop this more. Great build and agility. |
Edge Edwards |
