QUICK NOTES FROM THE MARION CLASSIC
Earle High School (Earle, Ar.) guard Trey Smith hits one of two threes in Saturday's game against Osceola in the Marion Classic. He ended up having eight points.
Marion High School (Marion, Ar.) point guard Marcel Mosley led the way for the Patriots this Monday with 27 points and a win for the ball club, 74-63 over the Osceola Seminoles.
West Memphis (West Memphis, Ar.) guard Rikendal Weast battles for a loose ball as West Memphis cruised to a victory over Columbus, Miss. in the Marion Patriot Classic. Junior guard Johnathan Fitzgerald and senior forward Tarvin Gaines tied for scoring at 10 points and Columbus' Josh Carothers led all scorers with 13.
Osceola Jr. High 5'9'' Freshman Tyler Masters is one of the best point guard in NW Arkansas. Very good defense, goes hard to the basket, very good mid-range jumper, can shoot the 3 ball if needed, by the time of his senior year, he should be in the top of his game.
ARK Discovery Player of the Week
In other action, Austin-East beat Greene Co. Tech 53-51. Austin-East was lead by Chance Jones and Brandon Lopez with 14 points each, and Chase Jones with 10 points. Greene Co Tech could not pull off the upset but Wes Livington had 13 points along with Zach Mitchell with 10 points. The game of the night was what everyone in Forrest City came to see, hoping that their Mustangs would get their first win by upsetting the number one team in this tournament: The Christian Life Academy Crusaders out of Baton Rouge, La. FC did not have enough fire power to knock out CLA. A big third period for Forrest City was not good enough to put the Crusaders away. FC did not give up, down by 3 at the end of the third period. The game was a see-saw the rest of the way. With less than one minute to play, it could have gone either way but forced turnovers by CLA caused Forrest City the game. The final score was CLA 64 to Forrest City's 59 with Forrest City still winless in the tournament. Langston Gallow
ay, one of the best shooting guards in the nation, is just a junior and was the leading scorer with 23 points for CLA as well as Patrick Robinson and Corey Self both with 13. For Forrest City, Henry Henderson had 16 points, Jesse Mitchell with 13, and Jim Bailey with 10 points.
Terrance Walker (pictured) scored 29 points to give the Jonesboro Hurricanes a 74-50 victory in the RUMBLE IN THE RIDGE Friday night over Noxubee County of Starkville, Miss. Lucas Nutt of JHS was 13 out of 14 from the free throw line. JHS did not have that much trouble with the Tigers of Miss. Daquarius Mallard had 15 points and 6'6 Shaunessy Smith had 11 points. Both teams will be back in action on Saturday afternoon.
