New 6A Champs
Jacksonville Red Devils are the 2009 Arkansas State Champs by downing Little Rock Hall Warriors 63-62 Saturday night in Hot Springs Summit Arena.

Deshore Mcclure,Jacksonville's 6'3 junior forward hit two of three free throw with 1.2 seconds remaining to give the Red Devils a 63-62 victory over defending class 6A state champion Little Rock Hall on Saturday night in Hot Springs. Baylor signee A.J. Walton, Hall's 6'2 guard who scored 15 of his game high 24 points in the game's final 5:40,made two free throws with 7.8 seconds remaining to give Hall a 62-61 lead.

Jacksonville, with no timeouts left inbounded to Mcclure who dribbled down the right side, almost losing the ball at midcourt before putting up a 25- footer that was off target, Hall sophomore David Rivers was called for the foul, giving Mcclure three free throws. McClure hit the first throw to tie the game at 62-62, missed the second and hit the third to give Jacksonville(23-3) the school's first-ever state basketball title. Hall (28-3) trailed by 13 points 49-36 with 6:15 to play before Walton's three-pointer with 5:40 to play started hall on a game-ending 26-14 run.

Demetrius Harris led Jacksonville with 20 points and 10 rebounds while LaQuentin miles grabbed 10 rerounds. Marland Smith aaded 19 points for HAll.

In the other 6A game the West Memphis Lady Blue Devils were blowed out by the Lake Hamilton Lady Wolves 59-35. Third time was not a charm for the Lady Blue Devils, Fincham and the rest of the Lady Wolves were feeling it, all night. It was their night from the get go as they destroyed the Lady Devils for the 6A state championship.

Lady Devils shot 27.3 percent from the field.got outrebound 32-19 and could only pass out three assists for the game. The Lake Hamilton 25-3 could do no wrong, beside the onslaught by Fincham and Weatherford, the Wolves shot a torrid 59.5 percent, including 60 percent from three-point range. It was almost like a home game for Lake Hamilton with 3,719 in attendance at the final of the evening, over 2,000 of them were Lake Hamilton fans. They went 3-0 in the building this year and the senior class enjoyed an 11-1 career mark there. Crystal Riley and Simone Young shooters for the Lady Devils get very few good looks at the basket. Weatheerford was the tournament's Most Valuable player. Riley led West Memphis with 17 points but no other Lady Devils scored in double figures, Jazimen Gorden added eight points while young and Cam Jeffries hit fours apiece. It was a sad ending for the LAdy Devils, who lost for the third straight time in the state finals.

Jalen Jackson is ready to soar with the Wings
Player Profile
Arkansas Wing forward Jalen Jackson was what more can I say, the best player in the tournament. Some may think different but his play proved why some think he’s the best 9th grader in Arkansas. At 6’5 and still growing, he has the physique of a player much older and the basketball IQ of a freshman in college. He just knows how to get it done. You want him to snag it out the air, lead the break and finish with a two hand dunk with power, he can do it, matter of fact he did. Just ask the Arkansas Hawgs. You like players that can finish with both hands at times looking ambidextrous, go see Jalen. Jackson is everything you want in a small forward or 2 guard prospect but his rebounding ability and post up game make him the best freshman in the area. Did I mention the 18 blocked shots over the weekend? So much for he doesn’t play any D theory. The only thing I would say about Jackson that he needs to work on is hit shooting from the trey line and he sometimes tends to lob passes because the game seems easy to him at times. He’s everything people say about him and more and if I had to make a bet on a pro from West Memphis, I would bet money on Jackson. Don’t be surprised if Jalen is able to pick from whatever college he wants and I mean whatever college (SEC, ACC) once he becomes a senior. If you’re ever in West Memphis next year and you want to see a treat, take a ride over to West Memphis High, you will not be disappointed.

Jackson gets ready to break on the ball!
